The sensation is dazzling. A grandiose world unfolds, with its elusive vistas, monumental landscapes, arrogant architecture and suspended atmosphere of catastrophe. The viewer is drawn in, projected into these new lands full of promise and danger. The line is pure and the compositions diabolical. To the precision of his clear line, the Londoner adds the meticulousness of detail and the power of colours that we don’t know whether they reflect some magic of nature or the impulses of the illustrator’s soul. Nowhere in Japan is a risograph print, an eco-friendly artistic technique that uses vegetable oil-based and solvent-free inks.
